AsBuilt Engine LLC ("we," "us") provides the AsBuilt Engine Extract desktop application (the "Application"). This policy explains what data the Application handles and where it goes. The short version: your data stays on your machine, except field-note images sent to Anthropic's Claude API for extraction under your own API account. We operate no servers and collect nothing.
Field note images and PDFs. When you click Extract, the Application sends the selected page image from your computer through our extraction relay (api.asbuiltengine.com) to Anthropic PBC's Claude API, which interprets the handwriting. This is the only network transmission the Application makes with your content. The relay forwards your images in transit only — it does not store, log, or retain them or the extracted results; we record only anonymous token counts per license for metering the included allowance. Anthropic's processing is governed by its API data-handling commitments (API inputs are not used to train models). If you enable the optional “use my own key” setting, images go directly from your computer to Anthropic under your own account instead, and none of your content transits our relay.
Extracted survey data, jobs, and settings. Structure data, job records, format preferences, and any optional API key you supply are stored locally in the Application's data folder on your device. They are never transmitted to us or stored by us.
CSV point files. Coordinate files you load are read locally on your device to cross-reference elevations and coordinates. They are not uploaded anywhere.
License activation. When you enter a product key, the Application contacts our activation server once, sending only the product key and an anonymous device identifier (a one-way hash derived from your operating system’s machine ID — it cannot be reversed to identify your hardware, files, or location). The server returns a license bound to that device. After this single request, license checks are performed entirely locally by cryptographic signature; the Application does not contact the activation server again. An offline activation option (by email) is available for machines without internet access.
Anthropic PBC processes the images you submit for extraction, as a service provider to you under your own API agreement with Anthropic. Consult Anthropic's privacy policy and commercial terms (https://www.anthropic.com) for their data handling practices, including their commitments regarding API data and model training.
Because all data lives in the Application's local storage on your device, you control retention entirely. Deleting a job in the Application, or uninstalling and removing its application data, deletes the associated local data. We hold nothing to delete on our side.
Your job data (and any optional API key) is stored in the Application's local storage on your device. All transmission — to our relay and to Anthropic — uses HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure; protect access to your computer and user account as you would any workstation containing project data.
The Application is a professional tool intended for business use and is not directed to children under 13.
